How do you feel when you are in your kitchen?
I feel happy, relaxed and it’s by far my favourite room in the house. The key difference with my new Kessler kitchen is that it’s been designed to accommodate the rest of my family too (not just for me in a professional chef capacity), so it’s pretty much the heart of my home. When I’m cooking, the open plan layout means that my kids can sit at the breakfast bar and actively get involved. They do their homework there, it’s where they watch TV, we chat, they muck in and want to help with the food prep, cooking etc.
What are the features you like to have in your kitchen?
I really like having a lot of space and storage and design is important – but not at the expense of function. As I travel on business quite a bit, I do a lot of batch and freeze cooking so that my family eat well whilst I’m gone. I’ve found that having my ovens that tiny bit larger means that I can cook more and its virtually halved the cooking time as a result – so it’s very energy efficient.
With the integral extraction built in to the hob, I also have an unobstructed view of the entire room – which makes it a natural gathering place and creates a nice family feel.
Do you agree that the kitchen is the heart of a home, and why?
Absolutely. I’m literally in my living room once a week – if that! As I’ve said – all my children hang out with me there and it’s a highly social environment. It’s got a great atmosphere, there’s always plenty of activity, chat and importantly – food!! There’s never a day in my life when I don’t have a reason to enter the kitchen
What stood out for you about Kessler when it came to choosing your kitchen?
What genuinely impressed me the most was how closely they worked with me during the design process. It really was collaborative, and I was consulted with at every stage. It was a pleasure that working with the designer – as I had 100% confidence that they were “in the zone” and focused on making sure that very single detail (regardless of how small) was going to be right.
It’s a rare quality finding someone you can work with in a professional capacity – who actively takes on board your practical and functional requirements but also makes it come alive creatively. I love my kitchen – it’s a beautiful thing!
